- CATE, MARTHA JONES - age 91, of Strawberry Plains, died
Thursday, May 8, 1997. She had been a resident of Jefferson County
Nursing Home and was preceded in death by husband, E.T. Cate; infant
daughter, Joyce Cate; daughter, Bernice Foland; grandsons, David Bales
and Denny Smith. She was a member of Dumplin Baptist Church.
Survivors: daughters, Irene Munsey of Knoxville, Jean Cannon of
Knoxville, Marilyn Hickman of Knoxville, Yvonne Bales of New Market,
Barbara Martin of Kodak, Carolyn Cate of Goldsboro, N.C.; sons,
Thurman Cate of Seymour, J. Harold Cate of Knoxville; 21 grandchildren;
28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Funeral service 8 p.m.
Saturday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home, Rev. Ron Jones
and Rev. Kyle Cate officiating. Family and friends will meet at 2 p.m.
Sunday at Cate Cemetery for interment. Grandsons will be pallbearers. In
lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dumplin Baptist Church
Building Fund, 1843 W. Dumplin Valley Rd., New Market, TN 37725, or
the Arthritis Foundation. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday
at Atchley Funeral Home in Sevierville.
