- Clarence H. "C.H." Gault, age 74, of the Claxton community, formerly of Oak Ridge, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at Methodist Medical Center, after a three-year battle with lung cancer.
C.H. professed faith as a teenager and was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Claxton.
He retired from the city of Oak Ridge after 34 years as a crew chief in the electrical department.
His greatest joy was his family. C.H.'s hobbies were his lawn and flowers as anyone who has ever seen it can attest to. He also loved to fish and his many trophies are mounted on the wall.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Flora Gault; father and mother-in-law, Carl and Ruby Johnson; and sister, Helen Morris.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Nina Johnson Gault; son, Eddie Gault; daughters, Francie and husband, Skip Edmonds, and Connie and husband, Dennis Fraker; grandchildren, Shannon Edmonds, Heidi, Travis, Candice Greene, and Gregory and wife, Kathryn Greene; great-granddaughter, Anna Grace Greene; step-grandchildren, Courtney Fraker, and David and wife, Jennifer Edmonds; step-great-granddaughter, Jasmine Edmonds; sisters, Ruby Jean and husband, Wayne Gann, Allie and Bob Harrington, Flora Alice Lewis, Ellsie and husband, Joe McCarthy, Beverly and husband, Hershell Disney, and Mary and husband, Isie Ben-Eilever; brother, Frank and wife, Brenda Gault; brothers-in-law, Ronald and wife, Nell Johnson, Larry and wife, Nancy Johnson, and Stanley and wife, Rosa Lee Johnson; special nephews, Chris Johnson and Barry Gault; niece, Kimberlin Mann; close friends, Jerry and Peggy Pressnell; and all the loving family and friends that he treasured, including the grandchildren's friends that knew him as Papaw.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Gault, Gregory Greene, Travis Greene, Christopher Johnson, Frank Gault, and Stanley Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald and Larry Johnson, Skip Edmonds, Dennis Fraker, and Jerry Pressnell.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Cumberland Oncology and the staff at Methodist Medical Center.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Holley-Gamble Funeral Home with funeral services to follow in the chapel at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Harold Ogle and the Rev. Larry Hewitt officiating.
Interment will be Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton.
In lieu of flowers at his funeral, C.H. requested that you find someone who needs help in their yard by planting flowers, mowing the yard and pulling weeds just as he had always done.
