Military:
Edd was on Corregidor Island in the Philippines when the Japanese
attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941 and served on Corregidor until the
surrender of U. S. Forces. He was captured by the Japanese in 1942
and was a prisoner of war for three years. He was on one of the
infamous death marches following the surrender of U. S. Forces in
the Philippines in WII.
Died:
UNDERWOOD, EDD - age 84 of Knoxville, went to be with his Lord on October 31 at St. Mary's Residential Hospice. He was a decorated WW II veteran serving in the Army. He was a Prisoner of War in the Philippines for three years. He was discharged having received many metals including a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by: his wonderful loving wife, Bonnie Underwood; parents; several brothers and sisters. He is survived by: his children, Sue Tilley and husband Richard, Pat Wilson and husband Jim, Linda Hankins and husband John. He is also survived by: his 6 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren; brother, Roy and wife Sue Griffin. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm at Highland South Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 1, 2005 with funeral services following at 8:00 pm in the Chapel, Pastor Charlie McNutt of Sevier Heights Baptist Church officiating. Graveside services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday at Woodlawn Cemetery with full military honors being provided. The family would like to give special thanks to St Mary's, St. Mary's Select, and St Mary's Residential Hospice. The family is being served by Highland South Memorial Park, Funeral and Cremations, 865-573-7300.
