- BROOKS, NELLIE - age 96, of Strawberry Plains, passed away at home Saturday, April 3, 1999. She was a member of Midway Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Brooks; parents, Andy and Maggie Covington; sons, Ralph, Gene, Leon Brooks; daughter, Ruth Smith. Her survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Delmar and Carol Brooks, Jack and Peggy Brooks; daughter, Faye Huffaker; daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Bill Stalling; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. A special thanks to the employees of House Call Home Health Care, Donna Moody and Lorraine Brown. Funeral service will be held 8 p.m. Monday, April 5, 1999, at McCarty Mortuary with Rev. Charlie Harkleroad and Rev. Norman Kennedy officiating. Family and friends will assemble 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at Thorngrove Cemetery for an 11 a.m. committal service. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at McCarty Mortuary, 4004 Holston Drive, Knoxville. McCarty Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
