- HAMPION, JACK WESLEY - age 84, went home to the Lord on June 21, 2012. He was a man of integrity, loving husband, wonderful father, and Papaw to all. He served as an Air Traffic Controller in the U.S. Navy. Following his military service he settled in Clinton, TN where he raised a family with Lucille Champion and their three children: Michael, Connie, and Jackie. He spent his last few years with his beloved wife Mary Lynn and sadly passed away on their wedding anniversary. She brought great joy and happiness to his life. Jack Champion loved his church, Second Baptist Church of Clinton, having served as a trustee, deacon, and encourager to all. He was a lifetime member of the International Iron Workers Local 384 and retired from Rust Engineering. He is preceded in death by parents, Shiver and Ophelia Champion; two brothers; one sister; his first wife Lucille Champion, and son Michael Champion. Survivors include: wife, Mary Lynn Champion; daughter, Connie Butcher and husband Jack; son, Jackie Champion and wife Monnie; grandchildren, Leo Champion, Paula Schudar, Kathi Jo Champion, Brian Lawson, Wesley Lawson, Sondra Devaney, Robert Butcher, Maryann Barbee, Elyssa Champion, Erin Champion, and Eric Champion. Other family members include Margie Fraker and husband Carl; Trula Ogle; Hobert Tudor; and Herbert Tudor; and J.C. Tudor. He had 20 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 23 at Second Baptist Church, Clinton, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the service immediately following. Burial will be on Sunday, June 24 at 1:00 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Second Baptist Church Building Fund.
