Preceded in death by her husband Theodore R. Turner, father and mother Thomas Roy Laugherty and Pearl Wells Laugherty, step-mother Nancy Tillery Laugherty, sisters Anna Mae Davis and Betty Reed, brother Carl Laugherty, and infant daughter Gearldine Faye Turner. Survived by children Joyce Turner Roberts (John Ed) of West Palm Beach, FL, David L. Turner, Sr. (Shawna) of Knoxville, and Carole Turner Johnston (Terry) of Sergeant Bluff, IA. Also survived by 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, special nephew Jay R. Hatcher, special niece Linda Akers Thornton, and numerous other nieces, nephews, and friends. She was a long time member and kindergarten teacher at Broadway Baptist Church of Knoxville before leaving to become a charter member of Second Baptist Church, also in Knoxville where she continued her children's ministry. A lady of grace and patience, a 12-year breast cancer survivor, a wonderful mother, a fabulous cook, a faithful friend, and a seemingly all-knowing source of doing what was right, she will be sadly missed but joyfully remembered by all who knew and loved her. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, August 28, at Highland Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Larry Woods officiating. 940 | Paul E. Underwood Knoxville, TN Paul E. Underwood, age 82, went to be with his Heavenly Father on December 14, 2017. God saw you getting tired and your stay was not to be. He put His arms around you and whispered "Come with Me". With tear filled eyes we watched you fade. Although we loved you deeply we knew that you could not stay. A gold heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest, our hearts were broken but it was God's way of saying He only takes the best. He will be missed by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Linda (Clorinda) Underwood. Daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Chris Browning. Grandsons Chad and Jake Davis. Sister, Marvin Lane, brother and sister-in-law, David and LaFern Underwood. Sister-in-law, Shannon Lett, brother-in-law, Ed Childress, and many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. 943 | Paxton Royal Cate, of Strawberry Plains, passed away Thursday, May 2, 1996, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. He was a member of Pleasant Grove "Piney" Baptist Church in New Market. Having served in the U. S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Cross D.E. 448 in the South Pacific, he was a Veteran of World War II. Mr. Cate was an employee of South Central Bell having served the Dandridge area for 37 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allie M. and Bethel Solomon Cate and by his brother, John (J.W.) Cate. Mr. Cate is survived by his wife, Anne Williams Cate; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Sharon Cate; daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Ben Cunningham; grandchildren, Brad and Ashley Cunningham, Stephanie, Matthew, Amy, Julie and Daniel Cate, all of Strawberry Plains; brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Bonnie Cate of Kodak; sisters Louella Jones of Crossville, Burnese Martin of Knoxville; sister-in-law, Shirley Cate of Knoxville; several nieces, nephews, and many friends. Mr. Cate was a special man and will be remembered by many. The family received friends Friday at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge. Interment followed the service at the church cemetery.
