Don was a faithful member of Bays Mountain Baptist Church for many years; additionally he was a longtime, proud employee for over 10 years at Berry Highland South Funeral Home where you could find him many mornings sitting in one of the rockers reading the newspaper and waiting for other staff to arrive. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Nancy Weaver; parents, Alvis and Cora Weaver; brothers Hugh, Kelso and RJ, sisters Dixie and Lillian; granddaughter Marlee Davis. Don is survived by children, Sharon Miracle and husband Terry; Don Weaver, Jr.; Kim Miller and husband Lee; Richard Weaver and wife Suzi; Leigh Ann Jones and husband Todd; grandchildren, Joe, Jonathan, Carolyn, Casey, Celsi, Catelyn, Clark, Caleb, Heather, MaryAnn, Paige and Christian. Great grandchildren Elijah, Michael, Miracle and Avyn; brothers Harb and Cliff; sister, Ruth Surrett . The family would like to extend a very special thanks to granddaughter Carolyn Armstrong and Michael for all of your great care to dad during his illness as well as U.T. Saulpaw, Jr.; parents, Glenn Pope Spearman and Nora Nam Lee Firestone; grandparents, Napoleon and Martha Spearman; sons, Glenn Wright and Charles Eric Saulpaw; daughter, Sarah Ann Werman-Saulpaw; and good "sister" friend, Louise McReynolds. 373 | During a visit to his sister, Mannerva U. Housley and other friends in Knoxville, Tennessee, Commodore took sick with pneumonia and died. His cousin, Ambrose Underwood, a steamboat captain for Oliver King Company, was given the use of the steamboat for the funeral. She was preceded in death by her parents, Florence Bunch Alley and Samuel L. Alley; sister, Marjorie Reed and her husband, Walter L. Reed, Sr.; sister, Betty Lou Alley; and brother, Samuel L. Alley. She is survived by husband of 63 years, Curtis W. Elder; daughter, Sara L. Elder of Washington D.C.; sisters: Daisy Ware and husband, Rev. Carl Ware and Mary Jane Gann. She was a member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church for 66 years, and she was retired from J.C. Penney Co. and Clift Chrysler Plymouth. After her retirement she worked on family genealogy, which she greatly enjoyed. She also loved working in the yard and taking trips to the beach and the New England states. Special thanks to her sisters in law, Joyce Atchley of Knoxville and Emma Catlett of Kodak, as well as Curtis' nephew, John Atchley and his wife, Sandra, of Knoxville for their help over the past 3 years. On September 8, 1913, Leta was born to the late Benjamin and Nora Holbert Roberts in Sevier County. She was one of 14 children born to this couple. Leta was a long-time member of the Beech Springs Baptist Church and a devoted mother, grandmother and homemaker to her family. Preceding Leta in death are: her husband, Roy S. Elder; brothers, Don, Roy, John and Eugene Roberts; sisters, Ray Greene, Ruth Snyder and Mabel Bowman; son-in-law, Arthur Douglas. Leta is survived by: her daughter, Helen Jane Douglas; grandchildren, Jennifer Jones and husband Greg, Suzanne Maples and husband Kevin; great-grandchildren, Kathryn and Andrew Jones, Anna Grace, Madison and Sydney Maples; brothers, Frank Roberts and wife Dorothy, Delmar Roberts, J.D. 392 | EVANS, HOWARD M. - 82 of Naples, Fla., formerly of Knoxville, died June 2, 2005 surrounded by his family at the Frances Georgeson Hospice House in Naples. Born in Galax, Va., he was the son of the late Rev. Robert Lee Evans and Blanche Bradley Evans of Knoxville. In addition to his beloved wife of 61 years, Carol Pugh Evans, he is survived by their three children: Larry H. married to Merry Butler of Atlanta, Ga., H. Stephen married to Colette Hildabrand of Lancaster, Pa. and Suzanne Evans Ziegler of Marietta, Ga. He was blessed with seven wonderful grandchildren, Kristi Leigh Ziegler, Janie Elizabeth Ziegler, Sarah Ashley Evans, Bradley Butler Evans, Evans William Ziegler, Lauren Edwards Evans and Andrew Lee Evans, and four sisters: Edith helsley of Beaverton, Ore., Mage Neblett and Roberta Luttrell both of Knoxville and Doris Lanning of Charlotte, NC. He attended the University of Tennessee until inducted into the Army. He served in the 258th Engineer Combat Battalion assigned to the 101st. Division on the European continent where his battalion built bridges usually ahead of the front lines. He was an associate of the JC Penney Company, Inc. for 42 years. He began his career at the JCPenney store on Gay Street retiring in New York in 1982 as Senior Vice President and Directory of Corporate Marketing. There he demonstrated vividly that JCPenney's greatest resource is its own people. He was a gentleman who never lost the common touch. He was the moving force behind and particularly proud of the JCPenney Golf Classic which raised millions for Suncoast (Tampa-St. Petersburg) Fla. area charities over the years. A memorial service was held in Naples, Fla. on Saturday afternoon, June 4th at 4 p.m. at the Moorings Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Charles Cary officiating. A memorial service will be held in Atlanta on Tuesday morning June 7 at 11 a.m. at Arlington Chapel-H.M. Patterson & Sons 173 Allen Road, Atlanta, Ga. 404-851-9900.
