1162 | UNDERWOOD, DENNIS RAY, SR. - of Corryton, entered his eternal home, Saturday morning, May 21, 2005, following a courageous and honorable battle with Fibro Sarcoma (cancer). He was born June 11, 1929, to Joe and Bonnie (Parker) Underwood, of Corryton. He was a faithful and devoted member of Corryton Baptist Church where, in past years, he had served as trustee, and chairman of the building committee. He was a loyal member of the Senior Adult Men's Class and the CBC Choir. One of his greatest joys was the years he represented his church serving in mission work. He was a dedicated member of The Gideons International and was active in the Prison Ministry. He served honorably for his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from KUB. Preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Bobbie (Ownby) Underwood; sons: Dennis (Dennie) Underwood, Jr., and Joseph (Jody) Underwood, both of Corryton; daughter: Ann Underwood of Corryton; daughter and son-in-law: Jan and Brian Beretta of Newport; grandchildren: Tyler Underwood, Autumn Underwood, Nicole & Joseph Beretta, and Summer Yount; great grandchildren: Jacob, Jordon, and Brooklyn Yount; brother and sister-in-law: Wendell and Shirley Underwood of Corryton; several sisters- in-law and brothers-in-law; many loving nieces and nephews, and extended family. He was a Prisoner of War in the Philippines for three years. He was discharged having received many metals including a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. 1186 | Wanda Ruth Underwood Ownby New Market, TN Wanda Ruth Underwood Ownby, age 75, of New Market, formerly of Knoxville, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 8, 2018. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse retiring from Fort Sanders Regional Hospital. She was a graduate of Everett High School in Maryville. Wanda was an avid UT sports fan. In the 1970's she staffed the First Aid rooms at Neyland Stadium during football season. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Oda and Eliza Underwood and her brother Buster Underwood.She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gena and Jeff Patten; son Conley Ownby; sister, Hettie Booth; nephew, Rick Booth; niece, Debbie Faulkner; and many other family members. Jacqueline loved her family and was an avid hockey enthusiast who held season tickets in Knoxville for many years. She was greeted at Heaven's gates by her husband of over 60 years, Teddie E. Welch, Sr.; parents, Samuel and Blanche Darr; son, Teddie E. Welch, Jr.; son-in-law Chester Wolfenbarger; granddaughter, Kris Love; and brothers, Bert and Sam Darr. 1195 | WELCH, TEDDIE EUGENE, SR. - Age 84 of Knoxville, TN departed this life Wednesday morning at Select Specialty Hospital, at St. Mary's. He was retired from ORNL after 36 years. He was an honorably discharged Army veteran who served his country as a 2nd Lt. during WWII and fought during the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions as Infantry Unit Commander. Teddie was a 32 Degree Mason who was a member of Bright Hope Lodge #557 F&AM, Scottish Rite, and served as a Greeter at Kerbela Temple. He was a long time season ticket holder of both UT Football and Knoxville Hockey. Teddie touched the lives of all he knew. His blue eyes and beautiful smile will forever be missed. He is preceded in death by son, Teddie Eugene Welch Jr.; son-in-law, Chester Wolfenbarger; brother, Carl Welch.
