Mrs. Thomas was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her parents Olin and Mae Petty Underwood, her husband Burl Thomas and two daughters Juanita Vann and Bernita Thomas. Mrs. Thomas is survived by her grandson Bobby Vann of Westmoreland; sister Ethel Thomas of Kodak; brothers & sisters-in-law Roy and Dottie Underwood, Ray and Evelyn Underwood and Bonnie Cate all of Kodak; great-grandchildren Brittany & Tony McNish of North Carolina, PFC Nathan Vann of Fort Campbell, KY, Jessica Vann and Bethany Vann both of Westmoreland; great- great-grandchildren, Aubrey & Jordan McNish both of North Carolina. The family will receive friends Friday November 4,2005 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Evergreen Funeral Home a graveside service will be at 11 am Saturday November 5,2005 in the Paw Paw Hollow Cemetery with Rev Dino Bray officiating. 1136 | Through the years, I have heard my father and aunt (Melton's brother and sister) mention their baby brother, Melton, with a great deal of softness. He was remembered as a big, healthy, fat baby prior to his sudden illness. His older brother, Leroy would play his guitar and sing to Melton and his sister, Sallie Mae remembers rocking him. It was believed Melton died of whooping cough. He was buried by Enoch Undertaker at Pollard Cemetery in Kodak. After his death, his mother, Bertha Pollard, is remembered walking to the cemetery, approx 2-3 miles every day, "rain, snow, sleet or shine."
