She is preceded in death by: husband, Mack Shumate; son, Lowell Shumate; grandson, James R. Curry and sons-in-law, Robert Curry and Curtis Smyre. He was a Democrat and served in the Indiana House of Representatives from Greene Co in 1863 and 1865 and in the Indiana State Senate from Greene and Owen Co in 1867 and 1869. 1081 | Ted L Wampler, Sr. - age 86 of Lenoir City, Founder of Wampler's Farm Sausage, passed away Sunday, April 10th, 2016. Ted was a longtime member and Sunday School Teacher at Crossroads Church of the Nazarene, formerly known as White Wing Church of the Nazarene. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Army. Ted was Chairman of the Board of Wampler's Farm Sausage. He served many years on the Board of Directors of First National Bank and also served as Chairman of the Board. Ted served as Justice of the Peace in an era of Tennessee history that has now past. He was the last living justice to have had both legislative and judicial power as a trial justice. Ted served as Foreman of Loudon County Grand Jury, on the Loudon County Board of Education as Chairman from 1975-1980, and Chairman of the Loudon County Vocational Governing Board during the same period. He served several years in the Executive Board of Directors of the Loudon County Rescue Squad. He was a Charter Member and Past President of the Eaton Ruritan Club. Ted was Past President of the Tennessee Meat Packers Association. Ted was a member of the American Legion and Avery Lodge #593 F&AM for well over 50 years. Ted and his wife, Frances were very active in The Compassionate Friends and served as Chapter Leaders for many years. Ted was author of the book " Will Our Tears Forever Flow" and gave many talks to church and civic groups on understanding grief. He also enjoyed giving humorous talks to senior citizens groups. Ted and Frances were both inducted into the Loudon County Hall of Fame. Ted was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Lee Wampler Hitch; parents, Riley and Edith Phillips Wampler; great-granddaughters, June Louise and Hazel Ann Denton. He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 65 years, Frances Wilburn Wampler; children and spouses: Ruth Ann and Edwin R. 1085 | Terry Darr Knoxville, TN Terry Lynn Darr, a decorated Vietnam Veteran, died on August 24, 2015 at the age of 72. A graduate of Powell High School, where he was known for his athleticism (especially football), Terry served in the Navy, earning several medals for bravery and honorable service. He was a chemical operator at ORNL and owned his own jewelry business. In quiet times he enjoyed nature, photography and sculpting. His love of the ladies earned him the title of silver-tongued devil, which he wore with a smile. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Jewell Darr; and second wife, Mary Lou Edmonds. Terry will be deeply missed by so many, especially his son, Michael R. Darr and ex-wife Ashlee; daughter, Mary Lynn Haun; grandchildren, Joseph and Taylor Darr; sister, Sandra Follis; nephews, Eric and Eddie Weaver and families; ex-wife and friend, Mickey Darr Blakely; ex-wife, Charlene Pratt; numerous cherished cousins; lifelong friend, Billy Paul Evans; and other friends too numerous to mention. The family will receive friends at Gentry Griffey Funeral Chapel on Monday, August 31st from 5:00-7:00 with the funeral to follow at 7:00 pm. May Ruby Mae Huffaker Webster, 73, formerly of Knoxville, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, in the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Prior to entering the hospital she had been a resident of Regency Health Care Center in Norris since April. She was the mother of Dianne Webster (Mrs. Robert) May of 106 Osage Road, a teacher's assistant at Robertsville Junior High School. Mrs. Webster had lived with her daughter and son-in-law at various times before she became a resident of the nursing home. Mrs. Webster was born in Kodak and came to live in Knoxville as a young woman. She was a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church of Knoxville and had enjoyed reading, raising flowers and vegetables and canning the vegetables. She was also an expert at quilting, knitting, sewing and embroidering her daughter says. In addition to her local daughter, Mrs. Webster is survived by a son, William A. Merritt of Copperas Cove, Texas; two stepsons, Lester S. Webster Sr. of Helenwood and Charles E. Webster of Knoxville; a number of grandchildren including Jennifer and Melissa May, both of Oak Ridge, Laura Johnson, Lester S. Webster Jr., Donna Reed and Kelly Webster, all of Knoxville; several great-grandchildren including Lester S. Webster III of Knoxville; and an aunt, Martha Clifton of Knoxville. The funeral was to be at 2 p.m. today, Jan 12, in the chapel of Stevens Mortuary of Knoxville, with the Rev. James McCluskey officiating. Burial was to be in Pollard Cemetery.
