Sherrill Sims (1952-1971), the youngest of six children and the only son of Turner & Velma Cate Sims, was killed in an automobile accident in 1971 along with two other friends. He was seventeen. -- Sevier County and Its Heritage; pg 343.

CATE, MRS. HATTIE BAILEY - age 82 of Rt. 2, Kodak, widow of the late Mr. M. M. Cate, passed away 10:15 a.m. Sunday at Jefferson Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Member of the French Broad Valley Baptist Church. Survived by 4 daughters, Mrs. Turner (Velma) Sims, Mrs. Henry (Goldie) Catlett, both of Kodak, Mrs. John (Florence) Swann, Mrs. Jimmy (Louise) Kelly, both of Dandridge; 4 sons, Ernest, Troy and Reed Cate, all of Kodak, Robert Bailey, Mascot; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services Tuesday 2:30 p.m. from the French Broad Valley Baptist Church, Rev. Kyle Cate, Rev. Buford Wilson, Rev. Colbert Strange officiating. Interment in Underwood Cemetery. Grandsons will be active pallbearers. Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience after 5 p.m. Monday. Farrar's Dandridge, in charge.
