    Paxton Royal Cate, of Strawberry Plains, passed away Thursday, May 2, 1996, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. He was a member of Pleasant Grove "Piney" Baptist Church in New Market. Having served in the U. S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Cross D.E. 448 in the South Pacific, he was a Veteran of World War II. Mr. Cate was an employee of South Central Bell having served the Dandridge area for 37 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allie M. and Bethel Solomon Cate and by his brother, John (J.W.) Cate. Mr. Cate is survived by his wife, Anne Williams Cate; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Sharon Cate; daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Ben Cunningham; grandchildren, Brad and Ashley Cunningham, Stephanie, Matthew, Amy, Julie and Daniel Cate, all of Strawberry Plains; brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Bonnie Cate of Kodak; sisters Louella Jones of Crossville, Burnese Martin of Knoxville; sister-in-law, Shirley Cate of Knoxville; several nieces, nephews, and many friends. Mr. Cate was a special man and will be remembered by many. The family received friends Friday at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge. The funeral service was held Saturday, May 4, at Pleasant Grove "Piney" Baptist Church. Officiating the service were Rev. Jerry DeZeam and Rev. Bruce Martin. Interment followed the service at the church cemetery. His body was interred 4 May 1996 in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, New Market, Jefferson County, Tennessee.

    Stallings, Velma Jo Pollard -- age 67, passed away suddenly Sunday 3:30 p.m. at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. A member at First Baptist Church of Strawberry Plains. She was preceded in death by husband, Albert L. Stallings, by one month, and by son, Olin. Survivors: 4 daughters, Mrs. Steve (Jenny) Kovack, Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Dennis (Beatrice) Osland, Dayton, OH, Mrs. William (Bobbie) Ballard, Jefferson City, Mrs. Dwight (Betty) Denton of New Market; 3 sons, Albert L., Jr., Strawberry Plains, Gary Mack of Knoxville and Stevie Joe of Strawberry Plains; 15 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren. The body was moved to Farrar Funeral Home, arrangements to be announced later.
