Ruby Mae Huffaker Webster, 73, formerly of Knoxville, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, in the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. Prior to entering the hospital she had been a resident of Regency Health Care Center in Norris since April.
She was the mother of Dianne Webster (Mrs. Robert) May of 106 Osage Road, a teacher's assistant at Robertsville Junior High School. Mrs. Webster had lived with her daughter and son-in-law at various times before she became a resident of the nursing home.
Mrs. Webster was born in Kodak and came to live in Knoxville as a young woman. She was a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church of Knoxville and had enjoyed reading, raising flowers and vegetables and canning the vegetables. She was also an expert at quilting, knitting, sewing and embroidering her daughter says.
In addition to her local daughter, Mrs. Webster is survived by a son, William A. Merritt of Copperas Cove, Texas; two stepsons, Lester S. Webster Sr. of Helenwood and Charles E. Webster of Knoxville; a number of grandchildren including Jennifer and Melissa May, both of Oak Ridge, Laura Johnson, Lester S. Webster Jr., Donna Reed and Kelly Webster, all of Knoxville; several great-grandchildren including Lester S. Webster III of Knoxville; and an aunt, Martha Clifton of Knoxville.
The funeral was to be at 2 p.m. today, Jan 12, in the chapel of Stevens Mortuary of Knoxville, with the Rev. James McCluskey officiating. Burial was to be in Pollard Cemetery.
The family requests that anyone wishing to give a gift as a memorial in Mrs. Webster's name, donate it to the charity of the donor's choice.

Marshall married Mayme Etter Pollard about 1915. Mayme (daughter of Jesse Pollard and Sarah Malinda Cate) was born on 21 Jul 1900 in Tennessee; died on 12 Dec 1973 in Tennessee. [Group Sheet]

SMITH, Mrs. Mayme Pollard - age 73, of 128 Pickering Street, passed away at the home early Wednesday morning. She was a member of Victor Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors: husband, J. M. Smith, Knoxville; daughter, Mrs. Ruby Webster, Knoxville; granddaughter, Mrs. Dianne Constance, Oak Ridge; grandsons, William A. Mayme Pollard Smith, 73, Knoxville, grandmother of Mrs. Jerry Constance, 117 E. Magnolia Lane died Wednesday morning at her home. She had been in declining health for several years.
Mrs. Smith was born and reared in Beech Springs, a small community near Kodak. She attended the Beech Springs public schools.
A member of Victor Freewill Baptist Church in Knoxville, Mrs. Smith was active in church work and enjoyed growing flowers.
She is survived by her husband, J. M. Smith; one daughter, Mrs. Ruby Webster, Knoxville; five sisters, Mrs. Paine (Payne) Hancock, Mrs. Bruce Hancock, Mrs. Sid Fox, Mrs. George Glenn, all of Knoxville, and Mrs. Albert Stallings, Strawberry Plains; and four grandchildren including Mrs. Constance.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at McCarty Mortuary in Knoxville with the Rev. Bill Luallen, pastor of the Victor Freewill Baptist Church, and the Rev. Thurman M. Pate, pastor of the Faith Freewill Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at the family cemetery in Kodak. (Pollards)

A few years ago, my father, Leroy Hancock gave me a photo of a corn mill that he had carefully wrapped in Saran Wrap and had attached a note saying the mill was owned by his grandfather, Jesse Pollard. He had written that the picture was taken around 1920. Several years later, Carrie Johnson Swan gave me a program of the Northview Community Homecoming in 1986. Reference is made in the program - Frank and Jess Pollard had a mill during the mid 1920's.

February, 1999 -- I met Stella Underwood, who had told me previously on the phone how she remembered driving by Uncle Jess' (Pollard) mill and seeing water dripping from the flume. On my first visit with Stella I took her a copy of the picture and she said she was having it enlarged and stated "Oh, I can still see that water leaking from the flume." My great grandfather, James Frank Pollard, had a brother Jesse who was born 14 Nov 1864 and married Malinda Cate. James Frank is buried in Beech Springs Cemetery in Kodak. Their father was James C. Pollard and their mother was Synthia (or Cynthia) Cate and they were married 3 Aug 1842 in Sevier County. James C. Pollard was born in Virginia (I think about 1820) and then shows up in the Sevier County census (this lists his state of birth as VA). e-mail from Tnhilbly (Sue Chrisman) dated 31 May 1998.
