    Elisha, his twin brother Elijah, and their brother John "Black John", hauled salt from the salt flats at Flat Lick in Knox Co, KY to Anderson Co, TN. They used wagons and mules and followed the trail along the Powell River, through the Powell Valley, then through the Cumberland Gap to the salt flats. The round trip took four or five weeks.

He was also listed on the Grainger Co, TN tax rolls in 1804, 1814, and 1821. John was picked to serve on a grand jury in Grainger Co, TN on Aug 15, 1803.

In his will, he appoints his wife as executrix, names his seven children, and states that all of his children were under eighteen years of age. He divides his estate equally between his wife and children and leaves either one hundred acres of land or cash with which to buy land to his sons.
