Robert served in the Union Army in the Civil War, was captured by the Confederate Forces, and was confined in the Andersonville Prison Camp. Family tradition says that he starved to death in Andersonville but he is listed in the 1870 Anderson Co, census.

Robert married Martha Serepta Disney on 15 Aug 1858 in Anderson Co, TN. Martha (daughter of Elisha Disney and Nancy Humphrey) was born between 1840 and 1841 in TN. [Group Sheet]
