    Notes:

    Military:
Joseph Yadon was born in Ireland, 17 Dec 1756. As early as 1772 he was serving in the Irish Army. During the American Revolution, Irish troops were sent to join the British forces against the colonists. Joseph Yadon came to America with British forces under the command of General Burgoyne and was among the prisoners captured during Burgoyne's defeat at Saratoga. These prisoners were marched thru Virginia toward the Albemarle Barracks, at Charlottesville, VA. Many slipped away to join the American Army. Historians note that the Irish people were three to one on the side of the colonists.

Joseph Yadon was one of these. He enlisted in the American army in 1779, at Martinsburg, VA (now West Virginia). He was under the command of Col. Joseph Crockett. In Sep 1780, Col. Crockett's men were sent to Ft. Pitt (Pittsburg) where they joined General George Rogers Clark. In June of 1781, Gen. George Rogers Clark left Ft. Pitt with a force of 400 men, traveling in boats down the Ohio River to The Falls of the Ohio (now Louisville, KY). They stayed at The Falls until December when Joseph Yadon was discharged.

Please note that the Lewis and Clark expedition began 14 May 1804 from St. Louis, and the Clark of this expedition was William Clark (Gen. George Rogers Clark's younger brother). In 1804 Joseph Yadon was in TN and had 10 children. He married Mary Pennybaker (daughter of Jacob and Christiana Pennybaker) 12 Jan 1782. They had 12 children. Joseph Yadon died 1 Sep 1842, at age 87. He is buried in the Yadon Cemetery. A low, granite marker identifies him as "A Revolutionary War Vet".

Joseph married Mary Pennybaker on 12 Jan 1782 in Martinsburg, Berkley Co., VA. Mary (daughter of Jacob Pennybaker and Christina Dotterer) was born on 01 Dec 1763 in Martinsburg, Berkley Co., VA; died on 18 Sep 1838 in Grainger Co., Tennessee. [Group Sheet]
